The residence certificate in Thailand can be required to prove an address in Thailand, for example, at the transport office to get your Thai car or motorcycle license; if you want to have a bank account in Thailand; if you buy a car or a motorcycle. This document certifies that a person resides in Thailand in a given locality. It recognizes your current residence address, which can be permanent or semi-permanent. Your residence can be a house, an apartment, a guesthouse or a hotel, but your stay must be long-term. If you wish to apply for a Thai driver’s license, this document is necessary to buy a car or open a bank account in Thailand, if applicable. What is a residence certificate?

The tax residence certificate is a document issued by the country of residence of each taxable person, confirming that the applicant is a tax resident in that country for the purpose of applying withholding taxes agreed between the country of income and the country of residence. For this purpose, there are different models of residence certificate, and their uses can be varied, namely: for administrative formalities, for tax purposes to prove tax residence.

Where can I apply for a certificate of residence?

This document is requested at the immigration office. It is an official Thai immigration document that indicates that you are residing in the country. Please note that it is important to have official documents proving your stay in Thailand, such as a long-term rental agreement or proof of ownership in Thailand.

What documents do I need to apply for this certificate?

The application must be submitted Monday through Friday, between 8:00 am and 10:00 am. The office is closed on public holidays in Thailand. The following documents are required:

➤ A copy of the lease agreement, the blue or yellow Thai house book (Thabian Ban)
➤ A letter from the landlord
➤ A passport to verify your identity
➤ A copy of the TM.30 form with the signature of the owner. (New requirement)
➤ Two passport size photos (4cm x 6cm). 2" x 2" photos are no longer accepted. (New requirement)
➤ Copies of the following passport pages: first page, visa page, departure card (TM.6) with signature on all pages

Once you have submitted the copies of the documents, completed the application form and provided your passport photos, you will receive a receipt. It takes 10-15 business days to obtain your residency certificate.
